What are core and non-core vaccines for puppies/dogs?

Core vaccines are essential for all pets and non-core are necessary for specific pets. Core vaccines protect puppies and dogs from common medical problems that can cause serious health issues. Core vaccines for your dog include: canine distemper, rabies, parainfluenza and hepatitis.

Non-core vaccines are recommended based on the lifestyle and surroundings. Not all pets are exposed to the same bacteria, parasites and diseases, which is why these vaccines are classified as pet-specific. Non-core vaccines include bordetella, leptospirosis and Lyme disease.

When should my puppy/dog be vaccinated?

Your puppy should start their vaccines around 8-weeks-old. These shots continue until they are 16-months-old. After this, they receive booster shots once they have completed the puppy round of vaccines.

Are there side effects after my puppy/dog is vaccinated?

Your pet may experience short-term side effects from their vaccines. The reaction is nothing to be concerned about as they typically clear up after 48 hours.
